Update: Mosque Construction

Salam brothers and sisters in Islam.

Here is an update on the mosque construction:

The first phase of demolition has been completed – emptying and gutting mosque building, removal of the roof and asbestos. The hedges around the entrance to the mosque has also been removed (see photos) and now the second phase of demolition will begin tomorrow – Tuesday 5 April where the building walls will be demolished and the floor taken up.

The method of demolition has been approved by National Rail after sending an engineer down to the site and they are happy that the dust and debris will be contained. National Power has also visited the site and we are now waiting for a date to be set for the electrical cable diversion underground.

As the works will now escalate inshallah, more funds are needed. Brothers and sisters in Islam thank you for all your donations so far and to those of you who supported the fundraising event in Brighton last night, where almost £2500 was collected. May Allah reward you in multiples for your saddaqua.

There will be regular construction updates on the website and on twitter, so that we can all follow and experience together the transformation of our mosque.

JazakoumAllah khair

  1. Good evening.
We, the residents of Ashford Square, would appreciate an update on works please.
It is hoped you secure the funds & that building works won’t take long.
    Please let us know soon.
    Thank you

    • Dear Rob,

      I hope you’re keeping well.

I am actually in the process of writing an update post but I thought I would reply to you directly as well.

We have raised just over £553,000 out of £675,000 needed for the new mosque. With regards to the building work, we have completed the roof for the new mosque as well as roughly 90% of the exterior building work. What remains to be completed are the internal works as well as the painting and decorating of the building. We hope to have the new mosque complete over the next few months.

      Thank you for your support.

  2. I am a visitor to Eastbourne. I come here a few times a year and always try and get to the Friday prayer. Today I went along and saw the new mosque is under construction. Alhamdolillah this is great news. Then I went to Saint Mary’s Church where Tarawi prayers were held but saw no sign of Friday prayer.
There is nothing on the website to say where at Friday prayers are held now.

Can you please try to keep the website updated for such information. Shukran.

    • Asalamu Alikom Mohammed,

Friday prayers are being held currently temporarily at:

      Langney Village Hall,
      Etchingham Road
      East Sussex
      BN23 7DX

Prayers start from approx. 1:15 pm.

This is the case until our new mosque is completed.

      Jazakom Allah khair
